You will seek Me and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart.- Jeremiah 29:13
How do we grow in our relationship with Christ and the Church?
Any relationship takes work. It takes spending time with that person, learning about them, hearing their stories, and experience life with them.
The same can be said for our relationship with Jesus . We need to learn about Him through prayer, study and reflection. Though this can be done in a solitary manner, we weren’t meant to do it alone. We need the love and accountability of other Christians. The Church is a communal Body of Christ, where every member needs to be connected and uses his/her gifts, talents, and treasures to build the Kingdom of God.
The spiritual opportunity where we most experience the love of Christ and one another is in the Sunday liturgy. Pope Francis recently said, “Celebrating the Eucharist also should make a difference in the way a parish community lives.” At Mass, Christ gathers people around him "to nourish us with His Word and His Life. This means that the mission and identity of the church begin and take form there."
In addition to the liturgy, Our Lady of Mercy has many other adult faith formation offerings to help us to mature in our Catholic faith and grow as disciples of Christ. Learning about our Catholic faith does not stop at Confirmation! Challenging yourself to participate in one new formation opportunity every year and equip yourself to become part of the New Evangelizaton.
Sanctify Christ as Lord in your hearts, always being ready to make a defense to everyone who asks you to give an account for the hope that is in you, yet with gentleness and reverence. -1 Peter 3:15
